Surgarloaf Lifetime Class Notes – Oct 1, 2012

Attendees: Sensei, Jay, Anthony

Theme: Yokoman blend

Started class with stretches. Followed by Taino Henko (KH, KNN), Morote Dori Kokyu Ho, Shomen Uchi Ikkyo Omote and Ura Waza.

Yokomen attack:  Back hand raises and strikes at an angle aiming for the side/top of the head.  The back foot steps straight in on the line with the attack.

Yokomen uchi blend. Stepping “off the line” with the back hand intercepting the attacking hand before the attacking hand can cross the plane of the attackers body/shoulder.  The forward hand performs a strike to the face.  From here the technique being performed dictates how the hands lead.

Yokomen Uchi Ikkyo Omote and Ura Waza
– A common issue in class was “getting around” so that the direction of the movement matched the “Shomen Ikkyo” counterpart.
Yokomen Uchi Nikkyo Omote and Ura Waza
– For Ura waza getting the “hands” to work out took some effort. On omote it was the nikkyo hand, on ura it was the wrist grab.
